Things did not go according to plan when we left our homes
to rendezvous for Maria's senior portrait session. Originally, we had intended to take her portraits at Grapevine Botanical Gardens. She arrived first and I got a text, "There is a prom going on here." I quickly replied, "Like a full-scale prom, or just a few couples?"
"Full scale. I asked."
As the client, I would be overwhelmed with needing to find a new location ASAP. As the photographer, I would know I was running against the clock (being the sun) and want to offer as much time as possible before it set on the horizon. I called and we discussed an alternative, but as we were both driving there, plans changed again with a suggestion from her mother and we ended up at the Gaylord.
The Gaylord Texan Resort is a sight to behold. Quoting their webpage, "Standing on the shores of the majestic Lake Grapevine, Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center welcomes guests to a stunning, one-of-a-kind experience...Guests can explore the four-and-a-half acres of airy, indoor garden atriums." Which happen to boast some great portrait spots!
When we arrived, there were still so many prom participants making use of the beautiful facilities, but Gaylord is BIG so we had no trouble moving around others and getting pictures in some great spots. Some of my favorites were in the outdoor vineyard/courtyard. It felt like we had stepped into a secluded part of Italy!
As we wrapped up our session we ended up outside just behind the building. But first I snapped these beauties against some pop of color.
It was a windy evening, but I love making use of wind in sessions. Maria was so relaxed and easy to work with and I love the photos that we got throughout her senior session.
